We drove quite a bit around the southern part of the island this weekend. Our hosts, Marcella and Elsebeth, who are very kind and gracious, invited us to a lovely dinner last evening… Cedar plank, grilled (over coal…Marcella believes best over coal!), asparagus, potatoes, mushrooms, egglpant…wonderufl! We have a lovely view of the bay and mountains and it is a beautiful neighborhood to walk…and a lot of speedbumps to drive over! It’s a neighborhood called Jan Sofat. (Yan So-fot is how you say it.)
The roads wind and curve, and despite it ha
rd to follow the maps, we are becoming more familiar with the island. Nancy (my artist partner) has been here twice before…a big help! We stopped roadside to paint local culture yesterday, then went to the beach in the afternoon where there were a lot of small fishing boats along the beach. Though interruppted briefly and by a rain storm, we were each able to manage a second painting on Sunday. Both were good outcomes and themed nicely of Curacao!
Today, we will be downtown and plan to paint one of the more famous scenes of downtown Willemsted, Curacao, then take a sunset cruise, Bon dia! (Good day!)
