Headed to Curacao!

Carry-on's for CuracaoToday is a further manifestation of a dream that I have had for some time…and that is to travel and paint.  As many of you know, I have devoted more and more time to watercolor painting in the last five years, and this quickly culminated in the launch of Simple Joys LLC.  It has been an exciting and challenging process!  While the time to devote to painting and the business is so very limited, I have found that committing several days or a week to concentrated outdoor “plein air” painting events has allowed me to focus without distraction, and often brings significant skill-building in a very short time.  It also had introduced me to a broad network of artists.

Several months ago, I was invited to participate in the International Arts Festival, Plein Air Curacao.  I explored quickly the island and the venue, spoke with fellow artist, Nancy Tankersly of Easton Maryland (who I learned had made a recommendation for my participation), and bought the plane ticket!  As a result, this is the first time I am going out of the country to paint.  What a blessing…a manifestation of the dream!  God is good.

Today’s blog begins an image of my carry’on-s ready to go.  (What you dont see is the 48.5 lb. suitcase with frames, clothing, an easel, and miscellaneous painting accessories!)

So travel with me as I explore painting the varied landscapes in Curacao (Dutch Caribbean – Netherlands Antilles) many of which are sure to be colorful architectural landscapes, which is my subject matter of choice.  I will try to blog daily or every couple, depending on the day’s activities and my access to wifi.  I am now in Miami and ready for an 11 a.m. flight, a meet-and-greet artists event Friday evening, and the out to begin painting on Saturday morning!
